Leah Tilney

Leah Tilney aka B-girl Flix founded Elements Collective 6 years ago with the mission to authentically represent hip-hop culture in Brisbane. As one of the few representing b-girls in Australia Leah has always been determined to push the limits of hip-hop dance culture, which was once very male dominated. Leah is a well sort after dancer, teacher and choreographer, and has worked widely throughout Australia and overseas, both performing and teaching. 

Leah won the Australian Battle of the Year Qualifierin 2016 followed by the Pacific B.O.T.Y Qualifiers in NZ’s 2vs2 B-girl competition and went on to represent Australia in Germany at the World Finals. In 2012 she also won the Australian We B*Girlz Battle with her partner Sammy “Tinylocks” to then compete in the world finals in France. Previously she has also won the B-girl battle at the 2005 Oz B-boy Championships and the 2005/06/07 Return of the B-girl Competitions ranking her as one of Australia’s leading B-girls. 

Leah is a competing member of iconic Australian breakdance crew Skill@Will and is the only female member. 

She was also a performer and collaborating artist for Stalker Theatre’s (SYD) productions Elevate and Stilt Break, which successfully toured internationally throughout 2008-2012.

Leah is quite involved in all aspects of performance including stage, television and film. Her credit list is longer than your arm, but to give you a few examples Leah has performed alongside the acts of Grand Master Flash, Africa Bambaataa, Guru, Method Man, Redman, Ying Yang Twins, Hilltop Hoods, Resin Dogs, Jade Macrae, Digital Primate and many more. As well as featuring at festivals such as Big Day Out 04/05/06/07, Platform 1 & 2 (Syd), Woodford Folk Festival, Sydney Festival, Utopian Dream 09/2010, Hoopla 09/2010, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and countless European Festivals over 08/09.

Leah has recently added director and producing to her skills list having received Australia Council Funding for a development of her new Hip-hop Dance Theatre Work M.I.N.D.E.D. This new work premiered at the Adelaide Fringe festival in 2017 and won the BankSA Best Dance Award & the Weekly Best Dance Award of the fringe and is set to tour in 2018.

Sammie Williams

Samantha Williams aka Sammie D is the co-director of EC & one of our main choreographers, performers and producers.

She is a versatile performer, choreographer and educator ranging in techniques from Contemporary to Hip-Hop Dance. 
Sammie’s practice ranges from working within theatre to commercial and community contexts. She shares a passion for working with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

Her commercial choreographic work includes film clips Balloons for Foals and Be Gone for Tara Simmons. Contemporary works for QUT’s performance seasons ‘Empty Beats for Lonely Dancers’ (2009), One Way (2010 & 2013) and Hands That Hurt (2011). Sammie has also worked as choreographer for two developments of Brown Honey Company’s hip hop musical ‘Twelve’ for Queensland Theatre Company’s Greenhouse seasons.

Sammie has performed in Force Majeure’s choreographic lab, the Expressions Education team, Dancehouse (VIC), The Place Prize (UK), the Australian Dance Festival and numerous independent seasons and commercial works. Some of her recent performance credits include ‘Hot Brown Honey Burlesque’, ‘Boiling Point’ (Phluxus 2), Slowdive (Claire Marshall), Fifteen (Liesel Zink), solo work ‘Klub Kulcha’ and Motherboards’ production of Deluge for the Brisbane Festival, Seoul International Dance Festival and Sewol Memorial 2015.

Sammie has directed, choreographed and produced 2 of our Hip-hop Dance Theatre Productions for touring ” One Way” and “Goldie & the 3 B-bears”.

As a dance educator Sammie has experience working across a wide range of age groups including working as a high school dance teacher, guest choreographer, workshop mentor and children’s classes at various private studios. Sammie was the QLD coordinator for Street Dreams a free community hip hop dance program which saw her run weekly classes across 5 locations in Brisbane and outlying suburbs and at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre.

Sammie’s passions for dance is apparent throughout her practice and from performance to education she believes in the power of dance to challenge, change, comfort and express.

Dickson Lee

Moving to Australia from Canada in 2015. Dickson quickly became a familiar face around Elements Collective. 
He took on the role of Studio Manager and co-ordinated multiple classes, timetables and students for our Fortitude Valley Studios.

Dickon is an exceptional teacher, choreographer and performer in a variety of styles but B-boying (breakdance) is where his heart is. 
He is an inspiration to any student who enters his class, he motivates, sets goals and caters to all abilities and ages.

Dickson is also a main cast member of our Hip-hop Dance Theatre Production “Goldie & the 3 B-bears”.

Dion Apriana

Dion has been in the dance industry for 9 years as a performer, teacher & choreographer. 

His knowledge on the hip-hop dance style ranges from the foundations of popping, locking and old school styles of new jack swing all the way through to the more intricate and modern street choreography. 

Learning from the leaders in the industry some of his credits include: 

- World Supremacy Battlegrounds Monster Division Champion (2012)
- Representing Australia 3 times in the Hip Hop International dance competition (located in Las Vegas) (2012,13,14)
- Grand finalist in Australia’s Got Talent (2013) , as well as teaching locally and nationally in studios and school based dance programs in co-ordination with community and council organisations.

Matt Williams

Matt Williams is one of our Acrobatics and Tricking teachers and performers.

He has trained and continues to practice the sport of Martial Arts Tricking; a combination of Gymnastics and Martial Arts.
Before finding the extreme sport Matthew spent most of his time training in Taekwondo. Through his 13years of training he has achieved a third degree black belt. His extensive training in Martial arts has contributed to his foundation and swift acquisition of knowledge in Tricking and Acrobatics. 

Matthew has competed in several National Championships for Taekwondo and has placed for various events in forms and sparring. 
During these years of intense training Matthew has learnt the skills needed to instruct the younger generation of martial artists, acrobatics and tricking where he has accumulated many years of teaching experience.

Liam "Glitch" Wass

Liam Wass  is one of Elements Collective newest members of staff, coming on board in 2016 as a Junior Teacher, his experience in the studio does not fall short however.
Liam represented Australia in world popping battles HHI, open division in Las Vagas at 14 yrs old 2012. Some more credits include:

- Advanced diploma in Dance performance at DLDC 2014/2015. 
- Aust got talent 2010 Young talent time 2011.
- Elements Collective Eclectic crew that placed 1st in Australia, Varsity division for “Hip Hop Unite” competition.

Liam been teaching Hip Hop foundations for over 5yrs in Coffs Harbour, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and now in Brisbane. Liam is well known in the QLD dance battle scene as an Allstyles Hip Hop dancer. Liam is honoured to have been trained by experts in there field of dance such as “Break Master “Q” Australia, Travers Ross” Coffs Harbour, “Kathy Beamer” Toowoomba, “Aaron Blue Eyes” Gold Coast, “Simon Lind” Brisbane, and “Wanida Serce” Elements Collective Brisbane.

Sam Evans

Sam is a member of iconic Brisbane dance crews Swagamama and Equals and currently teaches our external Boys Hip-hop Classes at Mater Dei Dance in Ashgrove.

Rhys Hume

Rhys' love for dancing took over his life from a very young age. He trained in many different dance crews throughout high school and externally at studios but it wasn't until he travelled to LA in 2015 and completed a LAtitude Dance Course that he really found himself. 

Upon returning to Australia, Rhys started his own company Lucid Moves and now also represents as a teacher & performer with some of Brisbane best dance companies such as Elements Collective and Mad Dance House. At the end of 2016 Rhys received a 2 month contract to dance with SDT Entertainment in China and danced for some of China biggest artists; Kris Wu, Will Pan and Jolin.
